Bhubaneswar: The COVID toll in Odisha touched 8,440 on Thursday with one more patient succumbing to the infection.
According to the Health Department, a 90-year-old woman of Bhubaneswar died of the disease. She was also suffering from hypertension. The death was confirmed after an audit.
The state has so far reported 6,564 COVID deaths during the second wave against 1,876 in the first wave last year.
There were 80 casualties in the state in November, 134 in October and 346 in September. Similarly, 2,056 fatalities were registered in August, while July saw 1,903 deaths, June 1,272 and May 737, said sources in the Health Department.
The second wave of the pandemic has claimed the lives of 48 children and adolescents in Odisha. As many as 13 of these deaths were reported between August 10 and 31.
