Jeypore: Koraput has witnessed a sudden surge in COVID-19 cases in the last two days. While 42 cases were reported till Sunday morning, 50 more people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the affected tally to 189 on Monday.
Of the new patients, 36 are local contact cases and among them, three are corona warriors – a jawan from the BSF camp at Boipariguda and two health workers.
The remaining 33 local contact cases have been reported from Damanjodi, Borigumma, Koraput municipality and Jeypore municipality.
Among the other cases, one was housed at an institutional quarantine centre at Baipariguda while 13 were in home quarantine.
With 51 patients having recovered from the infection, the district now has 138 active cases.
