Mumbai: Richa Chadha has been getting a lot appreciation and praise for her performance in the Netflix web series ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar’.
The novelty factor was high as this is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first project on OTT platform.
Describing Bhansali as a “tough taskmaster”, Richa revealed that she had to go through 99 retakes for a song sequence.
Richa, who has played the role of Lajjo, a tawaif, in Heeramandi, said in an interview to Zoom that Bhansali was probably trying to convey something which she wasn’t understanding.
Richa said that she also felt something was missing, and admitted it was Bhansali’s “right” to ask for more takes.
The actress, who will be seen on Kapil Sharma’s Netflix show The Great Indian Kapil Show along with her fellow-actresses, said: “Mera jo best day tha, wo mera worst day bhi tha (My best day was also my worst day) My worst day became the best day of the shoot.”
She went on to joke about missing a ‘century’.
“My score is the highest when it comes to retakes — during the dance sequence. 99. Main century maarte maarte ruki hoon (I stopped just short of hitting a century). It’s not easy when you are dancing around 200-300 extras who are watching you and you are failing. But when you overcome that, then it’s really a ‘Wow, I didn’t know I could do this’ moment. And that’s a great feeling,” said Richa.
Heeramandi also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal, Farida Jalal, Shekhar Suman, Adhyayan Suman, Fardeen Khan among others.
