Kantamal: The decomposed carcass of an elephant was found with its tusks missing in a forest at Kantamal in Odisha’s Boudh district on Thursday.
According to forest officials, the highly decomposed body indicates that the animal died a week ago. It is suspected the poachers could have killed the animal and removed its tusks.
Investigations are on to identify the perpetrators involved in the incident.
On December 3, carcass of a female elephant aged about 20 years was also recovered from Chitrakoot mountain under Tangi block in Khurda district.
After conducting autopsy, it was found the animal died due to old age-related ailments.
