Rare ‘Kau Machha’ Nets In Rs 2 Lakh In Odisha Auction

Paradip: For the second time in two months, fishermen netted a rare species of Marlin fish from the sea near Paradip on Tuesday morning.

A fish of the same species was caught off the Odisha coast last month.

Commonly known as ‘Kaau Machha’ since its mouth resembles the beak of a crow, the catch weighed 200 kg.

The fish was later taken to Baliplot fish market in Atharabanki area for auction and sold for Rs 2 lakh. The auction began at Rs 10,000 and went up to Rs 2 lakh, sources said.

This fish is much in demand in states like Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, environmentalists have expressed concern over this fish, which is found in deep waters, being trapped along the coast by fishermen as it hints at rising level of pollution in the sea.
