Puri: In a gory incident, a man seduced his estrange wife with a plot to murder her and then tried to commit suicide by cutting off his genitals at Baliapanda in Puri.
The couple was identified as Bulu Behera (32) and Chandrama Behera (29). While Bulu is a rickshaw puller, Chandrama works at a nearby hotel.
According to reports, the two used to fight regularly and were not on speaking terms for some time.
On Friday night, Bulu reportedly seduced Chandrama on the pretext of working on their relationship. When the unsuspecting Chandrama approached him, Bulu whipped out a knife and slashed her throat.
Alerted by the woman’s cries, neighbours rushed in to help her. They locked Bulu in a room and informed police. They then took a severely bleeding Chandrama to a nearby hospital.
Meanwhile, fearing that he would be arrested, Bulu attempted suicide by mutilating his genitals. Later, police admitted him to a hospital in a critical condition.
Puri police said they have lodged a case and started an investigation.
