Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Thursday arrested another youth in connection with the firing at a girl student of NIFT at Infocity here.
Earlier, the victim’s male friend, Asish Kumar Nayak, was held for his alleged involvement in the case. Police had said that Asish was present with the girl when the incident took place at a rented house at Sishu Vihar in Infocity area.
However, the arrest of another youth, identified as Tuka, in the case has raised suspicion.
Police sources said Tuka was present at the victim’s flat when the firing took place.
Also, the girl’s father alleged, “Tuka’s wife is also involved in the conspiracy. She suspected that my daughter was in a relationship with Tuka and threatened to kill her. Tuka and his wife are the prime plotters and they gave supari (contract) to Asish to kill my daughter.”
In her statement to police, the victim had said that the two youths barged into her room while she was sleeping and brandished a gun at her. When the victim did not believe them and said it was a toy gun, they fired at her.
Later, Asish created a story to mislead the police, said sources, adding that Tuka’s wife will be questioned as well.
