‘COVID Death Toll In Odisha Remains Unchanged’

Bhubaneswar: Chief Spokesperson of the Odisha government on COVID-19 Subroto Bagchi on Tuesday said that the death toll in the state remained unchanged at one since the man, who died this morning, had recovered from the infection.

“He passed away because of pre-existing illness. Hence, we are not counting it as COVID19 death,” he said.

The I & PR department had earlier tweeted that the 70-year-old man from Medinipur, West Bengal, passed away this morning due to hypopituitarism with septic shock and multi-organ failure.

The department further said that the man had recovered from the infection and found negative for COVID-19 in two repeat tests. “Although he had recovered from the disease, he could not be discharged from hospital due to his pre-existing medical complications,” it had added.

The man was admitted to the Apollo Hospitals on April 8 and had tested positive for the virus on April 9. He was brought to Bhubaneswar in an ambulance from Medinipur.
