Johannesburg: Continuing their spectacular show in the South Africa tour, India defeated South Africa by 28 runs in the opening twenty20 international. India have now taken a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Shikhar powered India to a good start after scoring 72 off 39 balls as the visitors set a target of 203 runs. In bowling, Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave his career best figures of 5/24 to restrict the hosts to 175 runs.
Earlier, India had won the six-match ODI series 5-1.
