Bhubaneswar: Dr Akshay Kumar Rout, father of senior IAS officer Sujata Karthikeyan and father-in-law of Secretary to CM (5T) VK Pandian, passed away here on Monday. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
Dr Rout was an eminent paediatrician in Jamshedpur and known for treating children of poor people free of cost.

Belonging to Kendrapara district, Rout graduated from SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, in 1972.
He is survived by his wife and three daughters. Sujata is the eldest.
Prominent people from different walks of life mourned his death.
