Indian Railways Operates World’s First Double-Stack Container Train
New Delhi: Indian Railways have set a new benchmark in the world by commissioning the first high-rise Over Head Equipment (OHE), with contact wire height of 7.57 metre, and successfully ran double-stack containers in electrified territory on Western Railway.
This is not only a first of its kind in the world, it will boost India Railways’ ambitious Green India mission.
The world’s first Railway to run double-stack container train with high reach pantograph in high-rise OHE territory commenced operations on June 10 from Palanpur and Botad stations in Gujarat.
The thrust is on innovation, speed and customisation in freight operations. Despite time lost due to coronavirus-induced nationwide lockdown, the Railway ministry is aiming to surpass last year’s freight figures.
