Dhenkanal: Four members of a family, including a cancer patient they were shifting to a different hospital, were killed and another sustained critical injuries when the four-wheeler in which they were travelling was hit by a truck on NH-55 near Nadhara Square in Dhenkanal district on Monday afternoon.
Police have identified three of the four deceased. They are Pabitra Mohan Pradhan, Paresh Pradhan
and Prema Manjari Pradhan, all residents of Landijhari village in Deogarh district.
The accident occurred when the family was shifting the cancer patient, undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science & Research (VIMSAR) at Burla. The injured was admitted to community health centre at Hindol, police sources said.
Over speeding is suspected to have led to the accident, the sources added.
