Four Priests Detained For ‘Violating’ COVID Norms In Odisha

Rayagada: Four priests were detained for allegedly violating COVID-19 guidelines in Odisha’s Rayagada district on Monday.

Despite several warnings and announcements to avoid the congregation in the view of coronavirus pandemic, the priests were allegedly found performing rituals in a temple.

The restrictions are being imposed under Sections 188 (violation of order promulgated by Govt), 269 (negligently doing any act known to be likely to spread infection of any disease dangerous to life), 270 (malignantly doing any act known to be likely to spread infection of any disease dangerous to life), 271 (knowingly disobeying any quarantine rule) of the IPC to prevent the third stage of infection — community transmission.

With one death and 123 recoveries, Rayagada district now has 17 active cases.
