Also, 944 more patients succumbed to the infection across the country in the last 24 hours. The fatality rate has dipped below 2 per cent and stands at 1.94 per cent with total 49,980 COVID-19 deaths.

However, mortality rates are low in India due aggressive testing and early detection coupled with quick isolation and effective treatment protocol, said Union Health Ministry.

About 71.61 per cent (18,62,258 ) people have recovered, including 57,381 patients in the last 24 hours, while 26.45 per cent (6,77,444) are still under treatment.

According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the total number of samples tested so far is 2,93,09,703 which includes Saturday’s 7,46,608.

Five most affected states by total counts of positive cases are Maharashtra (5,60,126), Tamil Nadu (3,26,245), Andhra Pradesh (2,64,142), Karnataka (2,03,200) and Delhi (1,50,000).
