Woman Held In Odisha’s Rourkela For Impersonating IPS Officer Again

Rourkela: Police have detained a woman on charges of impersonating an IPS officer and cheating a two-wheeler dealer in Uditanagar of the city.

The woman, identified as Sarmistha Behera of Dhamnagar in Bhadrak district, had gone to a Bullet motorcycle showroom in Basanti Colony in the city on August 11. Identifying herself as an IPS officer, she selected a motorcycle to purchase.

She produced some document and her IPS identity card for necessary paper works. She gave two cheques and Rs 25,000 in cash at the showroom and purchased a motorcycle worth Rs 1.9 lakh on loan through a finance company.

When the manager of the showroom deposited the two cheques at the bank, it was found that there was no cash in her account. He lodged a complaint at the Uditnagar police station.

Acting on the complaint, the police tracked the mobile number provided by the woman to the motorcycle dealer. She was traced in Uditnagar and subsequently detained by police.

The police also seized police uniform, Bullet motorcycle, IPS logo and fake document from the possession of the woman.

The woman was also arrested in an earlier case in Bhubaneswar on April 24. She had claimed herself to be an IPS officer of 2018 batch and posted at the Biju Patnaik State Police Academy in Bhubaneswar.
