Anti-IPL Protests In Chennai, Agitators Clash With Police
Chennai: Raising boycott call for hosting Indian Premier League matches in the city, several pro-Tamil groups including film directors organised massive anti-IPL protests in Chennai on Tuesday.
Alleging that the game was a diversionary tactic from the Cauvery protests, the protestors burnt the jerseys of the Chennai Super Kings. Several groups also staged a road blockade, affecting traffic movement.
The protestors included Seeman, film-maker Bharathirajaa were detained along with scores of leaders.
Clash were also reported between protestors and police at some places.
Owing to the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings, security was tightened around the M A Chidambaram stadium with 4000 police personnel.
