Kapil Dev Discharged From Hospital, Can Resume Normal Daily Activity Soon

New Delhi: The legendary Kapil Dev was discharged from hospital here on Sunday, two days after undergoing angioplasty following a heart attack.

India’s first World Cup-winning captain complained of chest pain three days ago and was admitted to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute.

“Mr Kapil Dev got discharged today afternoon. He’s doing fine and can resume his regular daily activity soon. He’ll be under regular follow-up consultation with Dr Atul Mathur,” the hospital said in a statement.

Kapil’s former India teammate and fellow-pacer Chetan Sharma tweeted a picture of the former with Dr Mathur. “Dr Atul Mathur did Kapil paji angioplasty. He is fine and discharged. Pic of @therealkapildev on time of discharge from hospital,” Chetan wrote.

Team India captain Virat Kohli and batting legend Sachin Tendulkar were among those who wished the 61-year-old a speedy recovery.

The only cricketer in the sport’s history to bag over 400 wickets and aggregate over 5000 runs in Tests, Kapil was coach of the Indian team in 1999-2000.
