New Delhi: A total of 36,470 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours took the country’s caseload closer to the eight million mark to 7,946,429, the Union Health Ministry informed on Tuesday.
This is India’s lowest single-day spike since July 18, when 34,884 new cases were recorded.
Meanwhile, the death toll due to the disease climbed to 1,19,502 with 488 new fatalities being recorded overnight, the ministry informed.
Also, 63,842 patients recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours. With this, 72,01,070 people have recuperated from COVID-19 so far, pushing the national recovery rate to 90.62 per cent while the case fatality rate stands at 1.50 per cent.
In another positive trend, the number of active cases of COVID-19 has remained below 7 lakh for five days in a row.
There are 6,25,857 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country as on Monday, which comprises 7.88 per cent of the total caseload, news agency PTI reported.
