Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police on Monday sealed a private nursing home in the city for allegedly collecting money from a patient’s kin even two days after her death.
According to sources, one Gouri Karua of Jharkhand was admitted to the casualty of the SCB Medical College and Hospital here on March 30. Later, she was shifted to the ICU of Annapurna Nursing Home at Kathagola Sahi in Mangalabag area on the advice of a broker.
However, the nursing home staff did not allow the family members to enter the ICU. But they continued to collect money from them towards the treatment of the patient.
On Sunday, they requested the staff to take them to the ICU but in vain.
Suspecting foul play, the family members later lodged a complaint at the Mangalabag police station.
Acting on the complaint, a team of Commissionerate Police and the district health officials arrived at the nursing home on Monday for an investigation. The team later went inside the ICU and found that the patient had died two days ago. Taking strong exception to the inhuman act, the team sealed the nursing home and arrested a staff.
The team also found that the nursing home was running illegally without obtaining the necessary permission.
Efforts are on to nab the owner of the nursing home.
Till reports last came in, all patients admitted to the nursing home have been shifted to the SCB.
