Divert All Industrial Oxygen For Medical Use: Centre Tells States
New Delhi: The oxygen supply meant for Industries will be diverted for medical use amid the massive surge in COVID-19 cases in the deadly second wave of the pandemic, the Centre said in its letter to the chief secretaries of all the states.
The government’s decision is aimed at bridging the oxygen gap in India, particularly in states like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan, according to the letter from the Home Secretary’s office.
With COVID-19 cases rising exponentially, the demand for medical oxygen has gone high. Several reports of shortage of medical oxygen from several states and Union Territories, which include Maharashtra and Delhi.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Sunday that the national capital has an “acute shortage” of oxygen for COVID-19 patients and alleged that the city’s quota of oxygen was diverted to other states.
