Bhubaneswar: With weekend shutdown coming into effect in the state from Saturday, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has requested the people of the city to contact it in case of any COVID-19 problems during the two days.

In a video message, BMC commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary requested the people to follow the guidelines of the state government during the shutdown which is practically coming into effect from Friday night. Starting from night curfew on Friday, the shutdown will continue till Monday morning, he added.

However, Chaudhary said it has been decided to extend certain relaxations during the shutdown like home delivery of food and movement of taxis to railway stations and airports.

Stating that the BMC can be contacted on helpline number 1929 to sort out any COVID-19 related issues like shifting the patients, arranging ambulance or taxis, he said, “We are there to help you out.”

On the people coming from West Bengal, Chaudhary said the BMC has made arrangements for their registration and verification at the railway station. Besides, the BMC staff have been deployed at the airport to check the passengers coming in flights.

On Thursday, the government announced that those coming from Bengal without COVID negative report or 2-dose vaccination certificate will be sent to institutional quarantine/paid quarantine centres in Cluster TMC for 14 days.

On the bed facilities, Chaudhary said the BMC has contacted more than 30 private hospitals in the city and discussed with their authorities in this regard. The BMC has requested the hospitals to follow the government’s direction on keeping 50% of beds reserved for treatment of COVID-19 patients.

The government had directed the private hospitals with 30 beds or more to ensure the provision of a minimum 50 per cent of available general beds and 50 per cent of ICU/HDU beds for COVID-19 patients.
