Odisha’s Daily COVID Caseload To Touch 10K By May First-Week!

Bhubaneswar: Contrary to Director of Medical Education Training’s claims that COVID-19 cases in Odisha have hit a plateau, technical spokesperson of the Health Department Jayanta Panda on Monday said that the daily caseload in the state is most likely to touch 10,000 by the first week of May.

“We apprehend that the COVID situation will peak in the country in the third week of May and during the first week of May in Odisha. The number of new patients in the state in the last one month has gone up from 60 to over 6000. Going by the rising trend, the figure could touch 10,000 by the first week of May,” Panda told the media.

However, he advised the people not to panic as an adequate number of beds, ICU, testing facilities, tracking facilities, training, PPE kits, and masks are available in the state.

“Odisha was safe during the first wave and is also safe in the second wave. Due to the foresight of the COVID Regulatory Committee, the state government has ensured adequate stock of COVID medicines and equipment starting from oxygen cylinders to ventilators, Remdesivir injections, plasma, and antibiotic medicines. Apart from this, the doctors, nurses, para-medical staff are kept in readiness to deal with the pandemic,” Panda maintained.
