OHRC Notice To Odisha Govt On Black Marketing Of Oxygen Cylinder & COVID Medicines

Bhubaneswar: Taking suo motu cognizance to the black marketing of oxygen cylinders and COVID-19 medicines for critically ill patients, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on Wednesday issued a show cause notice to the state government.

The Commission issued the notice to the Chief Secretary and the Additional Chief Secretary, Health and asked them to submit a report on the action taken by the state government on this matter.

It also asked the Director General of Police (DGP) to initiate stern action against the black marketers.

The Chief Secretary was asked to take immediate steps for setting up of temporary medical centres (TMCs) in rural areas for migrant workers who are returning from neighbouring states.

Apart from this, the Commission asked the aforesaid officials to ensure that the post-cremation rituals are done with strict adherence to the guidelines issues by National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

It asked them to submit the action taken report (ATR) on the above matters before its next hearing on May 26.
