Cuttack: A five-member doctors’ team of the Plastic Surgery Department of SCB Medical College and Hospital here on Saturday operated on Manjula, who had developed gangrene on her right upper limb following a snake bite.
According to sources, the first phase of the operation was performed under the supervision of Bibhuti Nayak, Head of Plastic Surgery Department, and efforts are being made to make the affected hand functional.

SCB Emergency Officer Dr Bhubanananda Maharana told the media the girl was doing fine after the operation.
She will undergo another surgery after three weeks.
Notably, more than a month after suffering from the pain due to a snake bite, the nine-year-old girl of Balijhar village in Haldi panchayat of Raighar block had received help from the district administration on July 13.
Unable to bear the pain, Manjula had been pleading for death.
After getting information on the girl’s plight from local media, BDO, Raighar, Debendra Prasad Bal assured of help and hours later, the CDMO Sobharani Mishra as well as local officials sent an ambulance to the village and shifted Manjula to district headquarters hospital, Nabarangpur.

She was then referred to SCB.
As directed by the state government, the minor girl is being treated for free.
