Bhawanipatna: Security forces busted a Maoist camp and seized several incriminating materials in Kalahandi district even as Odisha DGP reviewed the security measures on Saturday.

After getting information about Maoist movement, CRPF jawans, who were carrying out a combing operation, raided a forest area in Niyamgiri hill near Tadijhola village under Lanjigarh block.

When they arrived at the camp, it was deserted by the Maoists, but a poster, detonators, Maoist literature and other materials were seized from the site.

Meanwhile, DGP Abhay along with Director, Intelligence Lalit Dash and DIG, special intelligence wing (SIW) Anirudh Singh reviewed the security measures and anti-Naxal operation in Kalahandi with DIG CRPF, DIG SWR and district SP.

In the review meeting, they also discussed measures to check ganja smuggling in the district. Police have seized 667 kg of ganja and arrested 17 persons including a woman in the last two months. The arrested persons were mostly from Bihar. The DGP also inaugurated a new building of District Intelligence and Operational Centre.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Abhay said the Maoist activities have drastically come down in the past two years and efforts are on to free the district from Maoist presence. He appealed to the Maoists to join the main stream.

Earlier, the DGP visited Balangir where he held a meeting with the police personnel who have done good work in crime detection, NDPS detection, LWE matters and complimented them.

Balangir SP made presentation on LWE, criminal cases and other administrative issues. The DGP advised the SP and DIG (northern range) on what further improvements need to be made.

Abhay along with the senior officers also visited the CRPF camps at Khaprakhol and Harishankar. He interacted with the SOG officers, jawans and CRPF officials.
