Bhubaneswar: With drought-like situation looming large in 21 districts of Odisha due to scanty rainfall, the state government has taken necessary measures to deal with the situation.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Sudam Marndi said the government is aware of the drought-like situation in the state.
“The collectors submit the report on the rainfall data in their respective districts to the natural disaster committee everyday. On the basis of their report, the government takes steps to ensure that the farmers do not suffer from either less or more rainfall. The state government is always with the farmers to help them in times of need,” the Minister said.
He also hoped that there is still time for more rainfall in Odisha.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), out of 30 districts of Odisha, nine have so far received normal rainfall while 21 have received less rainfall.
“During monsoon, Odisha usually receives more rainfall due to the influence of low pressure over the Bay of Bengal every year. However, during monsoon season this year, four low pressures formed over the Bay of Bengal of which the state has received more rainfall under the influence of only one low pressure,” the IMD added.
