Cuttack: Keeping the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic situation in the state in view, the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) has come up with a new scheme of assessment for Classes IX and X students for 2021-22 academic session.

“The academic session will be divided into two terms. The first term will be from July to November and the second term from December to April 2022. Approximately 50 per cent of the syllabus will be covered in each term,” Mohanty said.

He said the internal assessment will be done at the school level in line with the pattern of continuous comprehensive evaluation (CCE).

Mode of Internal assessment
The internal assessment in the form of formative assessment (FA) will be done by the class/subject teachers periodically in a continuous manner. There will be two FAs in each term for Classes IX and X.

The first FA will be conducted in the second week of September and the second FA in the first week of November while the third and fourth FA will be made in the second week of January and the second week of March for Classes IX and X respectively. The total marks for each FA will be 20 marks.

Examinations for Class IX
—There will be two term-end examinations for Class IX. The first examination will be conducted at the end of Term-I during the third week of November 2021 covering 50 per cent of the total syllabus.
—The pattern of examination will be multiple choice questions of 20 marks and subjective questions of 20 marks of one-hour duration.
—The examination will be conducted at own school and the questions will be prepared by the BSE.
—The evaluation will be done by a neutral school to be notified by the Board.

—The final examination will be conducted at the end of Term-II during the second week of April
—Questions will come from the entire syllabus. However, 30% of the questions will be from the first 50% of the syllabus and the remaining 70% from the rest 50% of the syllabus.

—The pattern of examination will be multiple choice questions of 50 marks and subjective questions of 30 marks. The test will be of two-hour duration.

—While the questions will be set by the BSE, the examination will be conducted at own school and evaluation done by a neutral school to be notified by the Board.

—At the end of the final examination, the result will be published by own school taking weightage of different examinations conducted. The weightage for internal assessment, first-term examination and second term (final) examination will be 20%, 30% and 50% respectively. The marks of four FAs and two term-end examinations shall be uploaded by the mentor school.

—ln case, the term-end examinations could not be conducted at schools, the students can appear for the examinations at their homes and submit the answer books with the schools in the scheduled time. The evaluation will be done as usual by the neutral school.

Examinations for Class X
There will be two examinations, one each at end of each term which will be directly conducted by the Board.

—The first examination will be conducted during the last week of November 2021.
— The pattern of examination will be multiple choice questions of 50 marks of one-hour duration to be answered in OMR answer sheets.
—The questions will be from the first 50 per cent of the syllabus.
—The evaluation will be done by the Board through the computer.
—The final examination will be conducted during the last week of April 2022.
—The pattern of examination will be multiple choice questions of 50 marks and subjective questions of 30 marks.
—Questions will be set from the whole syllabus.
—Multiple choice questions will be answered in OMR answer sheets.

ln case, the examinations could not be held due to the worsening of the pandemic situation, the students have to appear at the examination from their homes.
—Evaluation will be done by neutral school and marks shall be uploaded in the official website of the Board.

—The District Education Officers (DEOs) will determine the neutral schools where the evaluation will be done.

Mode of assessment for different situations for Class X
1. In case both the examinations are not conducted, the results will be processed with a weightage of 20% for the internal assessment, 30% for the first-term examination and 50% for the second-term (final) examination.

However, the difference between internal assessment marks and term-end examination marks should be within 30%. In case, the percentage of difference is more with internal assessment on the higher side, the marks of internal assessment will be brought down so that difference in percentage remains at 30% level.

2. In case, the first term-end examination are not held and the final examination is concluded, the results will be processed as per the marks obtained at the final examination along with the internal assessment marks and the marks obtained in the first-term examination conducted at home with the weightage of 20% for the internal assessment, 20% for the first-term examination and 60% for the second-term (final) examination.

However, the marks of the first term-end examination will be moderated as per the moderation policy of the Board and the difference in the percentage of marks between internal assessment and final examination shall be brought down to 30% in case the internal assessment mark is in the higher side.

3. In case, the first term-end examination is held and the final examination is not conducted, the results will be processed as per the marks obtained at the first term-end examination along with the performance of candidates in the internal assessment and the final examination conducted at home with the weightage of 20% for the internal assessment, 50% for the first-term examination and 30% for the second-term (final) examination.

However, the marks of the final year examination will be moderated as per the moderation policy of the Board and the difference in the percentage of marks between internal assessment and the first term-end examination shall be brought down to 30% in case the internal assessment mark is in the higher side.

4. In case, both the examinations are cancelled, the weightage of 20% for the internal assessment, 30% for the first-term examination and 50% for the second-term (final) examination will be given for the determination of the school-wise merit list. The last five-year results will be analysed and the results published on the basis of the moderation policy of the Board to ensure validity and reliability of the assessment.

However, Mohanty said the Board may change the scheme of the examination in subsequent years with regard to the academic session, syllabus, pattern of examination and moderation policy keeping in view the prevailing situation.
