Commissionerate Police To Resume Slum Programme In Odisha Capital

Bhubaneswar: After suspending its ‘Basti Chala Abhiyan’ (move to slums) programme in the state capital for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Commissionerate Police has geared up to start it again.

To resume the campaign, Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash held a meeting with  the IICs of Khandagiri, Bharatpur, Nayapalli, Saheed Nagar, Mancheswar, Kharavela Nagar and Airfield police stations at the Traffic Police Station, here on Thursday.

It was decided at the meeting that the Commissionerate Police will begin the campaign in the slums under four police stations every month with two sub-inspectors remaining in charge of one slum.

In view of rising incidents of criminal activities and violence with the recent ones reported from the Master Canteen area and Munda Sahi, the PCR team of each police station has been assigned to carry out routine patrolling in the slums.

Apart from keeping a sharp eye on the criminal activities in the areas, the Commissionerate Police will look after the education of the slum children and healthcare of the elderly people.

There are about 300 slums in the Capital City.
