Serum Institute Founder Doesn’t Want Mixing Of COVID Vaccines; Know Why
Pune: Serum Institute of India (SII) founder and chairman Dr Cyrus Poonawalla is not in favour of mixing COVID-19 vaccines.
He is of the opinion that mixing could lead to a blame game between the drug manufacturers.
“I am against the mixing of two different vaccines. There is no need to mix two different vaccines,” Poonawalla Senior was quoted as saying by PTI.
A recent study, conducted by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), found that mixing Covishield and Covaxin doses led to better immunogenicity.
But Dr Poonawalla said that the results have not been proven in trials involving big numbers.
“If cocktail vaccines are administered and if the result is not good, then SII may say that another vaccine was not good… vice-versa, the other company might say that since you mixed Serum’s vaccine, it did not give desired results,” he argued.
