Good News For Indian Students: UK Cuts Cost Of Mandatory COVID Test On Arrival
New Delhi: There’s good news for Indian students and professionals flying to the UK for studies or work. The cost of a COVID-19 test which they have to mandatorily take on arrival in England has been reduced from 88 pounds (Rs 9,055) to 66 pounds (Rs 6,790).
Those travelling to the UK no longer have to go for government quarantine as the UK has moved India from its red to amber list earlier this month. But according to guidelines of the amber list, Indian passengers will have to undergo a paid test soon after landing in that country.
The Boris Johnson-headed UK government, on receiving complaints that the cost was quite high, especially for students and even those going on holiday, decided to reduce the price.
A record number of 3,200 students from India have got admission to UK colleges and universities, which is nearly 20% more than in 2020.
The steep rise in airfare in the Delhi-London sector, though, is a cause for concern. The price of a one-way ticket rose to as much as Rs 4 lakh recently.
