It’s Time For Joe Biden To Resign: Donald Trump On Afghanistan Crisis
Washington: Former US President Donald Trump called for successor Joe Biden’s resignation following Afghanistan’s quick takeover by the Taliban terrorists. The terrorists took control of Afghanistan within days following US troops’ withdrawal after almost 20 years on the ground.
“It is time for Joe Biden to resign in disgrace for what he has allowed to happen to Afghanistan,” Trump was quoted as saying via a statement. The ex-president also lambasted Biden over a surge in COVID-19 cases in the United States and domestic immigration, economic and energy policies, reported news agency AFP.
The Taliban took control of Afghan capital Kabul on Sunday, more than two weeks prior to the August 31 deadline set by Biden for completion of the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan.
It may be recalled that the US brokered a deal under the Trump administration with the Taliban in Doha in 2020 that agreed on the withdrawal of troops by May 2021 in exchange for various security guarantees from the terrorists.
As Biden took over earlier in 2021, he pushed back the troop withdrawal deadline and gave no conditions for it.
“What Joe Biden has done with Afghanistan is legendary. It will go down as one of the greatest defeats in American history!” Trump said in another statement on Sunday.
