Puri: A social activist and a mountaineer will launch a bike rally from Puri town to Ladakh in Leh in support of the campaign for a clean and tobacco-free India on Thursday.
On a mission to make the country free of pollution and garbage, Madhusudan Mishra, secretary of Mission Odisha has been involved in various campaigns by travelling to different places on motorcycle since 2014. He has found place in several record books for his efforts.
Madhusudan has roped in mountaineer Mitrabhanu Nayak, who shares the same concern with the former regarding the pollution, on going on a bike rally to Leh to spread the message of cleanliness and ill effects of tobacco consumption.
They would start their adventurous journey on a Bullet motorcycle from here on Thursday at 8.30 am. They would traverse through Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir to reach Leh.
They will promote awareness on cleanliness and bad effects of tobacco consumption on health during their journey at historical places like Hazaribag, Mathura, Varanasi, Haridwar, Jhansi and Ayodhya.
They plan to cover around 6,000 km from Puri to Leh in 20 days and return on September 15.
“Now India is producing 62 tonne of garbage everyday which will go up to 165 tonne in 2030 at the present rate. We intend to spread a message to make people aware of its effects on our environment and follow a clean lifestyle,” said Madhusudan.
