BMC Commissioner Reviews Reconstruction Of Lingaraj Temple Gate To Be Clad In Silver

Puri: The Simhadwara (Lion’s Gate) of Lingaraj Temple will be reconstructed and clad in silver on the lines of Jagannath Temple in Puri.

Bhubaneswar Municipal Commission (BMC) Commissioner Sanjay Singh along with ASI Bhubaneswar circle head Arun Malik on Friday reviewed the reconstruction of Singhadwara of the 11th-century shrine.

Notably, the main gate of the temple was damaged in cyclone Fani and the servitors have been demanding its reconstruction since then.

“Construction of the gate has begun and it will be clad in silver. We also discussed conservation and restoration works” the BMC commissioner said.

The reconstruction work is expected to be completed in one and a half years.

Both the existing doors of the east-facing temple are currently clad in bronze.

The doors are being constructed in Sal wood procured from the Forest department. The state government will fund the silver cladding, sources said.
