New Delhi: India is likely to receive above normal Monsoon rainfall in September, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday.
Following patchy rainfall in several parts of the country during July and August, such a forecast will be welcome news for farmers.
IMD informed that the month of August experienced 24 per cent less rainfall than normal.
“According to critical weather parameters, rains are most likely to be above normal in September this year,” said IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra.
Mohapatra stated that many parts of central India may receive rainfall above normal this month.
However, north and northeast India, and southern parts of south India could see normal to below normal rainfall.
He informed that rainfall deficit in the country during this monsoon season is 9 per cent till now.
