Heavy Rainfall To Lash Odisha From Today

Bhubaneswar: Heavy raifall under the impact of a cyclonic circulation is likely to lash a few places along the coast of Odisha and other places from Saturday evening.

The system has formed over the Bay of Bengal and may trigger heavy rainfall in Odisha within 48 hours, indicated the India Meteorological Department Saturday.

The national weather agency, in a mid-day bulletin, said the cyclonic circulation over the north-east and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal, will shape into a low-pressure area over the north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal within the period.

Under its influence, there will be heavy rainfall at one or two places across the state with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall which will continue till September 7.

Besides, there will be thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places during the period under the influence of a monsoon trough that stretches from Ganganagar to the north-east Bay of Bengal.

Fishermen are advised against venturing into the deep sea of the north and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast on September 6 and 7 as squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph will make the sea condition rough to very rough.

The IMD further said there willbe prolonged rainfall in Odisha after September 7 under the influence of the two cyclonic circulations—one over south Chhattisgarh and neighbourhood and the other over coastal Andhra Pradesh and neighbourhood.
