PM Modi Reviews Situation At Crucial COVID Meeting
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting to review the COVID-19 situation and vaccination drive to fight the pandemic. The session was held amid talk of a potential third wave sweeping the country in September and October.
PM Modi reviewed the prevailing COVID-19 scenario, checked the preparedness of the health systems to respond, availability of medical oxygen, and matters relating to production, supply, and distribution of vaccines in Friday’s meeting, according to a PIB release.
“The Prime Minister reviewed the status of the augmentation of bed capacity for paediatric care and of facilities supported under the ‘COVID Emergency Response Package II’,” the release said.
According to the prime minister, around one lakh oxygen concentrators and three lakh oxygen cylinders have been distributed among the states. PM Modi also spoke about the need for constant genome sequencing to monitor the emergence of mutants.
“On vaccines, the Prime Minister was apprised that around 58 per cent of India’s adult population has received the first dose and around 18 per cent of India’s adult population has received the second dose. He was updated about the vaccine pipeline and increased supply of vaccines,” said the release.
