Puri Records Wettest September In 87 Years
Bhubaneswar: Under the influence of a depression over the Bay of Bengal, Puri and Bhubaneswar broke the all-time highest single-day rainfall record in September.
Puri with 329 mm rain, since 8.30 am of Sunday, surpassed the 87-year-old record of 210.8 mm on September 20, 1934. This is also the highest-ever rainfall received in a single day.
Large areas of the Pilgrim Town were inundated on Sunday while tourists at the Sun Temple in Konark had to wade through knee-deep water as premises of the heritage site got waterlogged in the heavy rain.
Similarly, Bhubaneswar recorded the wettest September on Sunday with 195 mm rainfall, the highest in 63 years. The city had last received the highest of 163 mm on September 5, 1958.
