Rourkela: The body of a girl was found under a culvert in Pokarama area under Rayabaga police station limits, Rourkela on Tuesday.
According to information, some locals spotted the body and immediately alerted police regarding the same. The cops along with a scientific team reached the spot and recovered the body.
An alcohol bottle and a blood-stained stone have also been recovered from the crime scene.
“From preliminary investigation, it appears that the girl was subjected to physical assault and then murdered. However, the exact reason behind the girl’s death can only be ascertained after receiving the post mortem report,” a police officer informed.
In a similar incident, on June 19, the bare and mutilated bodies of two women were recovered from Balasore and Ganjam districts.
In Balasore, locals spotted the badly mutilated bare body of a woman on the busy National Highway-16 near Dahisada panchayat office in Soro area and immediately alerted the police.
Although the reason behind the death of the woman was not known, preliminary inquiry suggested rape and murder.
Similarly, the naked body of a woman aged between 30 and 40 years was recovered with injury marks from near an ashram on Ralaba Road under Golanthara police limits in Ganjam district.
Police and locals suspect that the woman was raped and then murdered.
