Selective Outrage Over 2 ‘Condemnable’ Incidents At AIIMS-Delhi?

New Delhi: A junior resident doctor of AIIMS-Bhubaneswar has questioned the selective outrage over two ‘condemnable’ involving the premier medical institute.

In his unverified Twitter account, Dr Datta wrote: “Most of us are aware of two condemnable news involving AIIMS in the last few days, one where students have mocked #Ramayana and another where a senior has allegedly raped a junior colleague. While both are shameful, I am disappointed by the selective outrage of netizens…”

He said that while there were hundreds of tweets demanding #ArrestAIIMSCulprits, only a few sought justice in the alleged rape case. “What shocks me the most is that even today, netizens give #Religion more importance than #HumanRights,” he added.

The Students’ Association of the institute was left red-faced after a modern spin to Ramayana on Vijayadashami lead to widespread outrage. The association later issued an apology for the Ramleela skit, stating that it was not meant to hurt anyone’s sentiments and it will ensure that no such activity takes place in future.

The skit performed at AIIMS, New Delhi, was sponsored by the online education technology platform Unacademy.

Reports said the show was hosted by first-year MBBS student Soyeb Aftab, the 2020 NEET topper.

Meanwhile, Kalinga Rights Forum has lodged a complaint with Deputy Secretary Manju Handa against the ‘offensive’ play.

Dr Datta was referring to the other incident in which a senior doctor of the premier medical institute had allegedly raped his junior colleague during a birthday party inside the campus on September 26. The accused has been absconding after the incident.
