Elephant Calf Falls Into 15-Ft Well In Odisha’s Keonjhar, Rescued
Keonjhar: An elephant calf, which lost its way in the Champua forest range Friday night, strayed into residential areas leaving its herd of 12 elephants before falling into a 15-ft deep farm well.
Villagers at Nedigotha, who found the calf struggling to come out of the well, informed Forest personnel Saturday afternoon. On receipt of information, a team of Forest officials reached the spot and rescued the baby elephant around 5 pm.
The baby elephant was part of a herd comprising four bull tuskers and seven female elephants. The calf could not accompany its herd after it fell into the 15-ft well in the dark at Nedigotha. Soon after its rescue, the calf joined its herd which was waiting in a nearby jungle.
