BJP approaches Guv over irregularities in CM’s poll expenditure
Bhubaneswar: A delegation of BJP state unit met Governor S C Jamir at Raj Bhawan here on Saturday and handed over a memorandum seeking his early intervention in the alleged irregularities in chief minister Naveen Patnaik’s poll expenditure.
“The party wants to know the source from which the chief minister got funds for election spending. It seems that the BJD had accepted donations from chit fund firms. Moreover, there are discrepancies in the poll expenditure data submitted to the Election Commission by the CM and his party. He had signed both the affidavits as a candidate of Hinjili assembly constituency and president of the ruling BJD. Therefore, we are demanding his disqualification as a legislator,” a senior BJP leader said.
Earlier, the saffron party had approached Election Commission of India demanding disqualification of Naveen as a legislator for allegedly filing false poll affidavit. It had also moved Income Tax Department and Enforcement Directorate seeking an inquiry into the alleged irregularities.
