Did Kapil Dev Get Rs 5 Crore To Share His Story For Ranveer Singh’s ’83’?
Mumbai: The much-awaited Ranveer Singh-starrer ’83’, directed by Kabir Khan is set to arrive in cinemas on December 24.
The film is based on India’s 1983 World Cup win at Lord’s.
Ranveer Singh plays former captain Kapil Dev, Tahir Raj Bhasin is Sunil Gavaskar, Jatin Sarna plays Yashpal Sharma, Saqib Saleem is Mohinder Amarnath, Dhairya Karwa plays Ravi Shastri, Jiiva plays the role of Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Harrdy Sandhu is Madan Lal, Ammy Virk plays Balwinder Sandhu, Sahil Khattar is Syed Kirmani, Chirag Patil plays Sandeep Patil, Adinath Kothare is Dilip Vengsarkar, Dinker Sharma enacts the role of Kirti Azad, Nishant Dahiya plays Roger Binny and R Badree is Sunil Valson. The team manager PR Man Singh, is played by Pankaj Tripathi.
Ahead of the film’s release, there is news that the makers of ’83’ shelled out approximately Rs 15 crore to the original winning team of which approximately Rs 5 crore went to Kapil Dev, News 18 reported quoting Bollywood Hungama.com.
“Before making the film it is important to acquire the rights of the subject and the individual stories of the players the film is based on, especially when it revolves around real-life people of incidents. Keeping this in mind, (makers) paid the original winning team of the 1983 World Cup approximately Rs 15 crore, while Kapil Dev walked away with the lion’s share of around Rs 5 crore for his go-ahead,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.
The trailer of ’83’ was screened at Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world.
