Bhubaneswar: People with comorbidities and those aged 60 and above can take the third ‘precaution dose’ of the COVID vaccine from January 10, 2022.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi made this announcement at a time when experts are recommending booster doses in the view of Omicron COVID variant.
However, the elderly population eligible for COVID-19 booster shot would require a medical certificate, chief executive officer at National Health Authority Dr RS Sharma told News18.com.
They are required to either upload the certificate, signed by any registered medical practitioner, as proof of their comorbidity while self-registering or carry a hard copy to the vaccination centre.
The government has specified 20 comorbidities, including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, stem cell transplant, kidney disease or on dialysis, cirrhosis, cancer, sickle cell disease, and current prolonged use of steroids or immunosuppressant drugs, the report added.
In his surprise address on Christmas, PM Modi also declared that vaccinations for children between the ages of 15 to 18 will begin from January 3, next year.
