New Delhi: Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s grandnephew Chandra Bose on Saturday urged Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to ensure DNA tests are done on the ashes kept at Renkoji temple in Japan

Kishida, on his first visit to India since assuming office in October 2021, arrived in New Delhi on Saturday.

“Please request Fumio Kishida to facilitate DNA test of Renkoji remains of the Hero of Asia and bring back the remains to India – the land he liberated from the clutches of British imperialism. Jai Hind!” Chandra Bose tweeted as the two Prime Ministers had a meeting at the Hyderabad House.

#FumioKishida-Japanese PM to meet Hon’ble PM- Shri @narendramodi. Please request FumioKishido to facilitate DNA test of #Renkoji remains of the Hero of Asia & bring back the remains to India- the land he liberated from the clutches of British imperialism. — Chandra Kumar Bose (@Chandrakbose) March 19, 2022

Netaji went missing seven-and-a-half decades ago, with many historians suggesting that he may have died in a plane crash.

However, the demand to bring back his purported remains from Japan’s Renkoji temple for DNA examination has not been met so far.

Modi and Kishida held productive talks, discussing ways to boost economic and cultural linkages between the countries, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a tweet.

It was not immediately known whether the issue of bringing back Netaji’s remains was brought up by the Indian side.
