Bhadrak Murder: Body Of Deceased’s Husband Recovered, Accused Arrested
Bhadrak: Barely 24 hours after the mysterious murder of a woman in Bhadrak district, police recovered the body of her husband from a canal at Kalatira here on Tuesday morning.
On the other hand, the accused, identified as Gopinath Mohanty alias Babua, who had been absconding after the incident, was arrested from Chandrasekharpur in Bhubaneswar last night.
According to sources, Babua hailing from the same village, has stoned the woman, identified as Bhaktilata Beuria, and later killed her husband Rabi Beuria.
The accused, in his statement, has confessed to the crime. He told police that he has killed the husband-wife duo to take revenge.
“I tried many times to eliminate the couple as they used to torture my mother on several occasions. Even they used to put a crowbar on my mother’s belly and stand on it. This irked me and I decided to kill both of them,” Babua said in his statement.
However, police are yet to ascertain the reason behind the torture.
SP Batula Gangadhar had on Monday informed that the daughter of the deceased person was raped by the accused.
“The biological samples collected from the room and bedroom where the incident took place on Sunday night, indicate that the daughter of the deceased woman was sexually assaulted. However, the samples have been sent to the forensic laboratory for a thorough examination,” the SP had said.
Police suspect that the accused stoned the woman to death during the attempt to save her daughter from his sexual assault.
The incident took place at Talachitha village under Dhamnagar police limits in the district late on Sunday night.
The daughter of the deceased had earlier told police that the youth tied her hands and legs and fled the spot immediately after killing her mother. “He had telephoned us from my father’s mobile number before entering our house. My father was not present in the house when the incident took place. He has not returned till now,” she said on Monday morning.
