Odisha Registers 87% Rise In Daily Caseload; 2 Districts Are Now COVID-Free

Bhubaneswar: After reporting less than 50 cases for three days in a row, Odisha registered an 87.5 per cent rise in the daily COVID-19 caseload on Wednesday with 60 people testing positive for the virus against 32 the previous day.

According to the I & PR department, 36 are from quarantine and 24 local contacts. Among them, 13 are in the age group of 0-18 years. However, all 16 districts have reported cases in single-digit with Sundargarj leading the tally at 9.

Here are the district-wise figures of the new cases:

4. Boudh: 3
5. Cuttack: 3
6. Gajapati: 4
8. Jajpur: 5
9. Kendrapada: 3
10. Khurda: 6
11. Koraput: 4
12. Mayurbhanj: 3
13. Nayagarh: 1
14. Rayagada: 1
15. Sambalpur: 2
16. Sundargarh: 9

Besides, 2 from the state pool.

With these cases being detected from 46,607 samples, the test positivity rate (TPR) stood at 0.12 per cent against 0.07 per cent the previous day.

Despite this spike, the active cases have dropped to 536 compared to 559 the previous day when the state reported 32 new cases and 83 recoveries. Puri and Kalahandi districts are now free from coronavirus will nil active cases. Keonjhar (1), Nuapada (2) and Jharsuguda (2) may soon follow suit.

Notably, 40 and 45 new infections were reported on Monday and Sunday respectively. Tuesday’s 32 was the lowest since May 12, 2020, when the state had seen 23 new cases.
