Retired Odisha Professor Killed During ‘Loot Bid’, Body Dumped At Farmland

Bhubaneswar: The body of a retired professor was recovered from a paddy field near his house at Balikhand Bazaar under Simulia police limits in Odisha’s Balasore district on Saturday morning.

Since the body bears deep injury marks, police suspect that the deceased, identified as Anand Chandra Patri (62), was attacked with sharp weapons during a loot bid and the body thrown in the field after his death.

His wife Manorama Patri was later rescued from the house with multiple stabbing injuries and admitted to Bhadrak district headquarters hospital for treatment.

According to sources, the miscreants allegedly broke into the house while the couple was sleeping. However, the two woke up and were attacked with sharp weapons when they resisted the loot bid. The looters fled with gold ornaments and cash from the house before dumping the body on the farmland.

Police have launched a probe to ascertain the reason behind the attack and to nab the culprits.
