‘Vidrohi’ Screening: Political Rivals Get Together To Celebrate Odisha’s Heroic Era [In Pics]

New Delhi: The special screening of ‘Vidrohi’, a serial based on the life of Odia warrior Buxi Jagabandhu, in New Delhi saw politicians, transcending party affiliations, celebrate a heroic era in the history of Odisha.

The screening of ‘excerpts from popular teleserial’ based on the life of the chief architect of the Paika Rebellion in Odisha’s Khurda in 1817, was organised by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who hails from Odisha, and was attended by Home Minister Amit Shah, I&B Minister Anurag Thakur and several senior BJD MPs.

Speaking on the occasion, Amit Shah pitched for highlighting the lives and achievements of forgotten historical figures through films and books to inspire future generations, without rewriting history.”Do not touch history curriculum for the moment. Who can stop someone from writing a book and releasing a serial? We should not have an inferiority complex about the country’s past,” he said.

The series on this revolt, which the Odisha government has been pushing to be declared as the First War of Independence, also has another Odia connect – Sulagna Panigrahi, who is playing the role of Radhamani, the first wife of Buxi Jagabandhu.

Taking to Twitter, Dharmendra shared some snippets from the event and wrote: “I compliment the team of #Vidrohi for showcasing the valour of the land of Lord Jagannath and its role in sowing the seeds of independence.
