10 Districts Turn COVID-Free As Odisha Reports Cases In 2-Digit; Two Deaths So Far This Month
Bhubaneswar: Odisha saw a slight rise in COVID cases on Friday as 17 more people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours against 11 the previous day.
According to the I & PR department, 10 are from quarantine and 7 local contacts. Three among them belong to the age group of 0-18. The new cases have been reported from six districts with the highest of 6 from Balasore followed by 5 from Khurda.
Here are the district-wise figures of the new cases:
1. Balasore: 6
2. Kalahandi: 1
3. Kendrapada: 1
4. Khurda: 5
5. Rayagada: 1
6. Sambalpur: 2
Besides, 1 from the state pool.
With these cases being detected from 18,723 samples, the test positivity rate stood at 0.09 per cent.
Having reported 17 new cases and as many recoveries in the last 24 hours, Odisha now has 121 active cases.
Ten districts – Koraput, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Jharsuguda, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Jagatsinghpur – in Odisha have turned COVID-free with nil active cases.
The Health Department also confirmed the death of a 52-year-old woman from Dhenkanal district due to COVID on Friday. She was also suffering from chronic kidney disease, hypertension and seizure disorder.
After a gap of almost two weeks, Odisha had reported the death of a 56-year-old woman from Bhubaneswar on April 12. She was suffering from Invasive Ductal Carcinoma of Breast (right) with Brain Metastasis grade-III. Prior to that, the death of a 75-year-old man and a native of Ganjam, who was also suffering from diabetes mellitus and hypertension, was confirmed as that of COVID on March 31 after an audit.
