Dedicated ICU Opens In Oncology Department Of AIIMS At Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: In a bid to provide comprehensive care for the patients with cancer and haematological disorders, AIIMS in Bhubaneswar has started a dedicated 7-bed intensive care unit (ICU) for their patients.
Director, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, Prof Mukesh Tripathi inaugurated the facility in the Department of Medical Oncology/Haematology of the institute. The department caters to the needs of cancer patients and other haematological disorders from Odisha and neighbouring states.
“A good number of patients are very sick at the time of admission to the hospital and need intensive care. Such patients, especially those with haematological malignancies, need dedicated critical care which cannot be provided in a combined ICU setting. Hence there is a need for a medical oncology/haematology ICU,” said Dr Prabodh Das, head of the department.
The ICU is equipped with the latest medical equipment including a ventilator and a monitor for each bed. Even the dialysis can be done at bedside.
Among others, Medical Superintendent, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, Dr Sachidananda Mohanty, associate professor Dr Sourav Kumar Mishra and assistant professor Dr Ilavarasi Vanidassane were present.
